What Mr. E is
Mr. E helps a host plan and run an in-person mystery party. This policy covers the Mr. E app for iPhone and Android and the website at mreparty.com.
What we collect
- Email address: if you sign in with an emailed one-time code, or a host puts your email on an invitation.
- Mobile phone number: if you sign in with a texted one-time code, or a host puts your number on an invitation.
- Guest name: the name a host enters for a guest, or the name you give when you join.
- Guest details a host enters: gender for casting, and whether you have accepted the invitation.
- Party details a host creates: party name, date, location, theme, guest list, groups, and notes about characters and guests.
- What you do in a party: your character, costume and casting preferences, clues and questions you receive, your accusation, and award votes.
- Messages and prompts a host writes for their guests.
- Push notification token: if you allow notifications in the app, we store the token that lets us send them to your phone.
- Activity times: when you last opened your party and when you first saw each clue, so the host can see who is following along.
- Feedback: notes a host sends with the Feedback button, along with the screen they were on, the app version and the browser or device type.
How we use it
- To sign you in and connect you to the parties you host or are invited to.
- To run the party: deliver your character, briefings, clues and prompts, and show the host who has joined.
- To write the party's story. What the host entered for a party is sent to an AI model to generate that party's mystery: guest names and genders, characters, host notes, and the party's date, location, occasion and venue details. Email addresses and phone numbers are not sent.
- To send one-time codes, party briefings and notifications you have allowed.
- To fix problems hosts report through Feedback.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- No tracking across other apps or websites, and no third-party analytics in the app.
- No sale of personal data.
- No access to your contacts, location, microphone or photo library.
Camera
The app asks for the camera only when you choose to scan a party invite QR code. The picture is read on your phone to find the code and is never uploaded or stored.
Who helps us run the service
These companies process data for us so the service works. Each is bound by its own privacy and security commitments, and we give them only what the job needs.
- Supabase: database and sign-in.
- Vercel and Heroku: hosting.
- Resend: sending one-time codes and party email.
- A text message provider: sending one-time codes by text.
- Expo, Apple and Google: delivering push notifications.
- Anthropic: the AI model that writes each party's story.
Who can see what
Parties are private and by invitation only. A host sees the guest list and what guests have done in that host's party. Guests see their own character and clues, and the names and characters of others in the same party. Nothing is public.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep party data so hosts and guests can come back to it. A host can retire a party at any time, which closes its links.
You can delete your account yourself at any time: sign in, open Your parties, and choose Delete my account. Your sign-in, email address, phone number and notification tokens are removed right away. Parties you host are retired. Invitations you received keep the name and character your host gave you, so the party still works for the other guests.
If you cannot sign in, email steel_ferguson@yahoo.com with the email address or mobile number on the account and we will remove it within 30 days.
Children
Mr. E is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the name a host enters for a guest.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
